The post is titled San Francisco Winter, but in all honesty, I don't even think Californians can call it Winter. The weather in the city while I was there was absolutely beautiful, and though I didn't hit the piers this time, I am sure the water would have looked beautiful. The sun was out at all times of the day, and nights were clear. But although the weather didn't act like it was Christmas time, the people sure did. The city was decorated as lavishly as usual, and Union Square was populated with carolers, shoppers, and tourists. My best pictures were taken at Treasure Island though. I went at night and joined countless other photographers to take some long exposure shots of the city skyline. Hope you like them! The new span of the By Bridge brightly lit at night. Long Exposure Shot at 8 seconds.

There were a lot more pictures than I expected for this fall, so i decided to make another post to prevent the first from being too cluttered. Same deal as last time, but this one has some foggy pictures from early morning fog and dew, and a couple more of Mission Peak on a fall filled street. Most of these were taken on a photowalk I went on alone. Honestly, taking a photowalk is an enjoyable to clear your mind and embrace nature's beauty around you, and most of all, spend some personal time with yourself in this omnisocial world. For any of the aspiring photographers out there, this is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to get to know your tastes and your camera. Enjoy the pictures! Mission Peak in the background with trees lining the sides of the street.
This year has been pretty dry for us Californians, so when we see even a bit of water, we get pretty excited. It rained, so I got a few pictures after the rain left. Which wasn't too long after the rain came, but any water helps. I also got a picture of the moonrise following the daylight savings time adjustment. Hope you like them! In the foreground, a magnolia tree rests after the rain. In focus is a sweet gum tree with beautiful red tints of the fall. And in the background, a hill covered in eucalyptus trees.

Everyone celebrates it, and family and friends meet together to enjoy the lengthy festivities and eat lots of food. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights, and is the occasion which marks the Lord Ram's return from the forest after he defeated the king of the demons, and completed his exile. Diwali is also often decorated with candles and sand art, also known as rangoli. I have some nice pictures that I wanted to share from my own experience of Diwali this year! Enjoy! A well lit piece of the sand art previously mentioned.
Read More Below! So here's the album I have been dying to share with you all. It has some of my best shots, and hopefully you concur. During this trip, I was able to experiment with a lot of techniques because we were not stuck on an itinerary. We planned the trip as it came, and finished what we could see, and left the rest for the next time. Some highlights include the City of Arts in Sciences in Valencia, the Sagada Familia in Barcelona, Park Güell in Barcelona, and the Royal Palace in Madrid. As for the picture in the update, if you guessed the City of Arts and Sciences, you got it! Read on for more pictures. For the story of my trip, stay tuned to the experiences page! Also, I'll be uploading a lot more of my pictures in the gallery page. Even the pictures that don't make my personal cut! So look forward to those soon! This is a fountain in a central square near downtown Valencia. I brought my tripod with me during my entire trip, but I decided against bringing it on this specific day. When I found the fountain, I was disappointed that I couldn't get the picture, but I figured a way out. I set my camera on a nearby planter box, and set it to the smallest aperture, the lowest ISO, and the max exposure possible without overexposing it. And voilà I got the shot.
Read More Below! So I haven't posted anything recently, and it's mostly because I haven't shot a lot recently either. However, I did venture off to a journey in Spain, where I shot some of my personal best photography. A lot of it can be found on my 500px, but it will be here soon. As a preview, here is one of my favorite shots of the entire trip. Don't know where it is? Look back to find out more about it! Also, I changed the name of the site to Seizing Light, as I felt it better fit my purpose.
Thanks for reading! Recently, I started a 500px account, and I have opened my photography to the market. If you would like to buy some of it, I would really appreciate your support towards my photographic endeavors.
You can find my page at: www.500px.com/shivamparikh16 and the store at: http://500px.com/shivamparikh16/store Again, thanks for reading, and thanks for all your support guys! -Shivam So, a couple days ago, some of my friends and I went on a sunset hike up Mission Peak, located in Fremont. We went up the trail that begins on Stanford Road, and had a blast getting to the top. When we got to the top, the wind hit us like a blast though. My eyes began to tear up as the wind blew harder and harder, and even my three layers of clothing could not protect me from the cold. Unfortunately, I did not bring gloves and my hands were literally frozen. My tripod felt the same temperature as my skin, but since we made it to the top, we decided to make the best of it. Enjoy! The colors of the sunset began to reveal themselves before we reached the top. I used this time to set the manual settings on my camera because it began to get colder, and I knew we wouldn't stay at the top for very long.
Read More Below! A couple nights ago, I took these pictures of the moon. Unfortunately, I just missed the eclipse and the moon turning red because of cloud cover and time constraints, so I was feeling a little bad that I missed such a great opportunity. So I set up my big telephoto lens (650mm-1300mm) in a dark room with my tripod, and shot some detailed pictures of the moon in incredible zoom. (The first picture was taken on the night of the eclipse with a 300mm zoom). I just thought I would share them with you. When I was taking these pictures, I kinda felt like I was Gru from Despicable Me, and I thought to myself, "I am going to steal the moon," and it was in the Gru accent. Those of you who watched the movie will understand. Enjoy! So this picture was shot with my 75-300mm lens and I cropped it out a little. I shot this on the night of the lunar eclipse, and it actually came out with a small red tint towards the bottom. Darn, I really wished I had gotten to see the whole thing.
Read More Below! This is my Alaskan album. I took a lot of pictures in the Denali National Park, but only included a few of my favorites. The rest were taken in the Kenai Fjords National Park. The thing about Alaska is that the nature just takes you away from everything else and you get a feeling of freshness and happiness that modern just cannot give you. I was able to experience this, and I want you guys to be able to feel it as well. The pictures were all taken in August, so the sun was still out till 9:00 on most days while I was there. This bull moose came out on the road for quite an adventure on my way out of the park, and I was able to capture a couple incredible shots of him. He stuck around for a while, but too many people began to surround him so he went back to eating his leaves.
Read More Below! Here, I have posted a couple pictures that I took in San Francisco, and the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco is a magnificent, metropolitan city with a diverse population, a beautiful skyline, multiple landmarks, and most of all, great food. This is a picture of the sunset with the Golden Gate Bridge barely visible in the back right. It was taken on the Aquatic Park Pier walk near Ghirardelli Square.
Read More Below! Below are some pictures from St. Louis downtown. Taken in front of the City Hall, and of the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Enjoy! This is a picture of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis Missouri. The little black spots at the top of the arch are the windows at the top where visitors can get a beautiful view of the entire city and its' downtown skyline.
So, this is my first post on Seizing Light (formerly Photos and Tech)! I look forward to sharing my photography and technology knowledge with you all! I thought I would kick it off with one of my favorite pictures. I took this picture in Alaska on the route from Anchorage to Seward. This is actually the railroad that takes passengers from Anchorage to Seward and back.
